Datum: 17-09-2011

B and W of Dinkelland say ‘yes’ to building a new fifty meter competition pool in Denekamp. The initiators need to round up financing before April 1 of next year though. This is the first success of 2521 Simply Swimming, which developed the plan together with the initiators. The new pool is to bring annual savings of more than 200.000 euro for the municipality of Dinkelland.

An Olympic fifty meter competition pool, enabling more appealing international swimming competitions to be held in Twente. Denekamp is to become an Olympic supporting pillar for the sport of swimming. The KNZB support this completely. There is not only room for top-class sports: the complex will have elaborate caring facilities. The pool, costing around eleven million euro, is to be finished in 2015. It is up to the city council. B and W have already been convinced. The sports complex Dorper Esch is to be transferred to the initiators, who presented the plan ‘Sportcentrum De Dinkel’ early this year. The municipality contribute 650.000 euro annually to this privatized establishment. Other than that, the municipality withdraw their involvement in the sports complex. The municipality will not be responsible for future shortages in exploitation. The annual contribution remains 650.000 euro at most. Following privatization, the municipality is no longer responsible for the staff of Dorper Esch. In order to maintain staff information, the to be formed association will also be charged with maintenance of the sports facilities in Denekamp, Rossum, Tilligte, Lattrop and Ootmarsum.

The college was advised by research firm Synarchis, in choosing the swimming pool plan. This bureau put forward an elaborate advice. Their conclusion is that the plan is realistic. However, a few questions remain. For example with regards to exploitation. With a one-time investment of two million euro, energy costs of the sports center should amount to zero. The Denekamp sports center will be the most durable of its kind. This should interest financiers and grant providers. The sports complex will be a pilot project, closely watched across borders.
